Change

Met up with a friend who just got back from US for a short holiday before flying back for a perhaps permanent position. We haven't seen each other for almost 2 years so I thought there would be a lot of catching up. But instead, there were quite a few awkward silences during our dinner.

Why, I wonder. You know how people always say that change is inevitable? Perhaps that was the reason. We both felt that the other party has changed since we last met. Of course, it has been almost 2 years; He's in the states while I am back home.

He thinks I'm not as bubbly as before, and I think he complains too much. He complained about the drop in food standards at the restaurant we went to, he complained about Sg being too boring and he even complained about the lack of hot chicks here. The thing I can't stand the most is whenever he starts his sentence with "You know, Singaporeans are blah blah blah." He gives me the feeling that he isn't a Singaporean himself, though he said he still sees himself as one.

I know going aboard opens up your horizons, allows you to experience more and perhaps see things differently. Maybe I am just a frog in her own sweet little well who has yet to see the world. But at least I still see Singapore as home. Do you?

P/S: I am not being patriotic here, merely stating how I feel.

Happy Dumpling (Duan Wu 端午) Festival!

My colleagues and I had a sumptuous dumpling "ba zhang" lunch today in celebration of the dumpling fest, which is supposed to be tomorrow (the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar).

Each of us brought 2 dumplings each, ranging from "ba zhang" to "nonya zhang" to "vegetarian zhang" - so many varieties!

In preparation..

Dumpling galore..

The most expensive "zhang" of the day - SGD22 from Crystal Jade! Looks like lotus leaf rice actually.

Nothing too fancy - some pork and dry scallops, some pea-like stuff which is supposed to be healthy.

We had freshly-made lemon tea after the heavy meal to "wash away" the greasiness.

Thanks to the "lemon cutter"..

And the "lemon sou".. and the photographer - ME! =)

Congrats to Alan and Pauline!

Attended Pauline's wedding last Sat at Qian Xi Lou. Met up with a bunch of ex-colleagues, reminded me of those good ol' crazy days back at EDS. It was like a mini gathering for us, with lots of fun and laughter!

Well, I'm really happy for Pauline. Found and married her true love after 6 months of courtship. How sweet. Hope you've a blissful marriage! =D

Some camwhoring time before the dinner begin..

New Makan Place - SayCheezeCake @ Tampines 1

Located at L2 of Tampines 1, SayCheezeCake is a medium size fusion restaurant selling soup, salad, pasta and desserts with a different touch. One word to describe the interior design would be LOUD. Orange, red and white with "film grain"-feel wallpaper that is pretty colorful. The whole place gives out a young and vibrant ambience.
a
My colleagues - Endrea, Sharon - and myself, we ordered 3 starters and 3 mains to share. (Photos below taken with my new baby - Samsung S8300 - I like!)

Laska Chowder - creamy seafood chowder blended with laska gravy - interesting combination, each with its own unique taste and not over-powering each other.

Cheezy Fries - fries topped with sour cream mayo and cheese
- a little stingy with the sauce.

Caesar with Prawns - lettuce tossed with prawns and parmesan cheese
- lettuce aren't crunchy enough, probably due to too much caesar salad sauce, making it a little too sour.

Tokyo Pizza - jap-style thin crust pizza with teriyaki chicken and Katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes)
- chicken isn't marinated enough, making it a little too bland.

Baked Salmon Risotto - salmon baked rice with cheese and mushroom
- combination of cheese, salmon and mushroom is quite nice, but rice is a little too dry.
a
Risotto - a traditional Italian rice dish; rich and creamy with some resistance or bite
a

Spaghetti Bolognaise - spaghetti with beef bolognaise sauce - spaghetti a little too hard, but sauce wise is pretty good.

We didn't have any stomach space left for dessert so that gotta wait till next time. Overall, the food at SayCheezeCake is only okay, definitely not for fussy eaters.

Rainy week

It has been raining almost every night for the past few days. Heavy downpour, lighting and loud thunder woke me up in the middle of the night. And it's hard for me to fall asleep again, not knowing when there will be another loud thunder. (yes, i'm afraid of lightning and thunder!)

The lack of sleep is really bad. I can see my dark circles and eye bags getting worse. When will it stop raining?! =S
