Random updates

Let's see, where should I begin? Olrite..

Been through the first week of my new job. For those who still don't know, I am now working as an associate consultant for a relocation company. Office is in Tanjong Pagar. Having worked in Orchard and Bugis, this new vicinity is somewhat like a 'countryside', without much places to go during lunch hour. Still trying to get used to it. It's a female environment; the boss is the only guy. So far, everyone I met is quite friendly, so I don't have too much difficulties fitting in.

Started my Spanish class on Monday. The teacher is a lady from Spain. For the first ten minutes of the lesson, I was trying hard to catch what she was saying because of her accent. It's not as easy as I thought. With all the 'th's and 'r's, it's making my head spin. Haha. But I will master it. It's important to me.

Attended a Cuban Son workshop by Andy Suarez with Nat on Friday. The Son is a countryside dance, the 'un-commercialized' version of the salsa today. Unlike salsa, the strong beat for Son is on the 4th beat.

And Baby finally own his first bike - a black phantom! Sleek and sexy. I am the first pillion rider on his bike yesterday. Not too bad! =)

Baby, congrats on finally fulfilling you dream! But remember to ride safely oh! Heh. (=^.^=)

Such Coincidence

Met up with a few secondary school mates to discuss about our KL trip, which eventually lead to a reminiscence session where we talked about the good old days back in our secondary school years. Our teachers, our classmates and even our prom night held in our school hall. So much memories. =)

And such coincidence that we actually 'bumped' into the prom night of the current graduating batch of our school! We didn't know it was the prom of our school till we saw some helpers coming out from the Swissotel Stamford Hotel. Who can miss the blue-and-green uniform of the girls? Haha.

Prom night at Swissotel eh? How fortunate. Compared to our prom, which was 10 years ago, it's simply heaven and earth! Not forgetting that our school hall was haunted. Hmpf! =S

Ah, I miss those carefree days~

Looking for a job?

Ever since I was cruelly fired by my boss, I've been trying to find a new job. Flipping through the recruit section in Straits Times, checking with friends for any job openings in their company, hoping to find a new job soon.

Well, sometimes fate works in miracle ways. My friends helped to forward my resume to their HR last Friday, and I got two calls yesterday to arrange for an interview this Thursday! Hooray! I actually prefer one over the other, but we shall see what happens during the interview. The Interview is very Important. *cross fingers*

As I was flipping through the recruit section last Saturday, I suddenly asked Baby what he think is the most efficient way to find a job. Through recruit section in newspapers? Through job agencies? Or through referrals?

Recruit section in newspapers

The most convenient way, I think. All you need is the day's newspapers and you are ready to explore the possibilities offered by the recruitment ads. But it's not easy to find a suitable job as most of these ads are simplified versions that only provide limited info about the position.

Job agencies

Provides the most opportunities as the consultants have a wider network of potential employers. However, you need to go down for an interview with the consultant, before he/she decide which position to recommend you to. On what grounds do they based on to determine the suitability between you and the job? Besides, you don't get the full amount of your salary cos the consultant earn commission from it.

Referrals

Perhaps this is The best way among all. You are referred or recommended by someone who is already working in the company. That someone probably has worked with you before or know you well enough. They probably will put in some good words for you. And the possibility of you getting the job is much higher, unless you screw up the interview.

So which do you think is the most effective way?

6th Nov & 7th Nov 2007 - most memorable days

Did my lasik surgery on Tuesday. They said it will not be painful, just mere discomfort during the op. Oh man, they gotta be kidding! It WAS daMN painful Lar! I can practically feel (and smell) the entire process. How the surgeon push the device into my eye to make my eyeball still, how he flip open the flap (cornea), how he 'stick' back the flap, I can feel them all. And I can even smell the 'chao da' smell!

P/S: For people who wanna know more or who are thinking of going for lasik, you may wanna watch this video first ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=O4kDC4sZ5Jg ). I don't want to post it here cos it might cause some discomfort to some. =)

Anyway, after the surgeon replaced the flap, my vision actually became rather clear. But it was too painful so I kept my eyes closed most of the time. While others seem okay, I was tearing crazily and the pain was almost unbearable! I took a cab home (one of the nurse brought me to the taxi stand), felt my way to my room, took a sleeping pill and fell asleep.

My vision was almost 20/20 the next day. When I opened my eyes, everything was so clear! (Picture Peter Parker in spidy 1) Just that till now, my eyes are still feeling dry and need to constantly moist them with eyedrops. Other than that, I am quite happy with the surgery. =)

As for 7th Nov, it was more of having mixed feelings than a memorable day actually. My boss terminated my employment on this day. Yap, you read correctly. In a way, I was fired. (Ronald Donald Trump's fav line "You're fired!")

For those who read my blog frequently should remember I was already thinking of quitting some time back, but was indecisive. Since my boss kind of made the decision, then might as well. Definitely there is a BIG difference in meaning between quitting the job and being fired. But to me, the outcome remains the same. There's actually so much I wanna say about this but perhaps I shouldn't bad-mouth my boss (soon to be ex-boss) in my blog. If you're interested to know, ask me personally. =)

My last day will be this coming Wednesday, 14th Nov.

My ex-colleague (Sally) has already submitted my resume to her HR on my behalf. Hope they will call me on Monday to arrange for an interview. =)
