Last day of February 2009

Time really flew past very quickly this year. With a blink of the eye, it's already coming to March. And to think that we just celebrated CNY. Wow.

Has been pretty busy with work lately. Which, I guess, is a good thing in this economy downturn. At least I still get to keep my job. Did my performance appraisal a few weeks back. Let me have a good chance to sit down and reflect about my performance, my job and perhaps my career advancement. Not too bad, at least now I have a clearer picture and better directions.

Been spending most of my time either at work or at home. Trying to stay away from the crowd, prefer to spend quality time with my parents or just spend some time being alone. Perhaps age is catching up. Signs of ageing. LOL. Today is Saturday, and here I am, blogging away. I've spent the entire day at home actually.

Well, I'm off to watch tv now. Till we meet again, take care..

Kuriya Japanese Restaurant

Tucked away in a corner in Raffles City Shopping Centre (beside UOB atm), this restaurant will definitely catch your attention with its small space and few tables. Fret not, the mystery uncovered, more seats within.

Kuriya gives out a zen feel with nice selection of classical music. It's a pity that the menu says otherwise. Forget about the usual Japanese food items - yes they have soba, tempura and chawamushi - but their speciality is sashimi (I think). They have a separate menu full of expensive looking sashmi items - from salmon to yellow tail to some which I can't even pronounce.

Though it was a treat from a friend (thank you very much!), we ordered the usual soba set and some interesting appetizers to share.

From top left: Grilled tofu (shop speciality but can skip cos nothing fancy), Salmon salad with spicy sauce (looks like yu sheng, taste normal), Mixed vege with sesame sauce (must try!!) and Fish roe egg rolls (I think.. quite interesting)

a
Grilled squid (skip pls! unless u like to chew rubber)
a
a
From bottom left: Soba crepe, Grilled ice cream and Green tea cheese cake with ice cream
a
a
And Onigiri! MOF one is way better.
a
Verdict: Unless you're willing to spend on good quality sashimi, you can skip Kuriya.

20.02.09 Friday 林宥嘉's Trick [迷宮] Concert

Yoga [林宥嘉] is really a talented singer, the magician of music. Regardless English or Mandarin songs, fast or slow numbers, he is able to deliver them beautifully. Despite being only 22, Yoga has proven his ability to deliver a wide variety of music genres and vocal styles. My favorite are ballads such as 我愛的人 and jazz/swing such as 我要我們在一起 and 年纪大了一点.

Frankly, I always see Yoga as a singer rather than a performer as he can sometimes be quite stiff during performances. However, he has surprised me during the concert with the fast numbers. He can really move with groove! I don't know how long he took to practice and rehearse those steps but I am impressed. He has shown his charming and cute side. [I like.. Heh!]

Perhaps Singapore is the last stop of his world tour concert, that's why he went all out to sing during the concert. He was so so high during the encores! And I really truly enjoyed myself very very much! =)

P/S: Guess who I saw at the concert? Guo Liang, Apple Hong, Nat Ho, Yuan Shuai, Zheng Zhan Luan, Chen Peter and some of the participants of the current Campus Superstar! The weird thing is, they were all very very composed during the entire concert. Not high at all. Not sure why.. Perhaps they have to consider their status.. What a waste. =P

I HATE the very very hot weather and the big bright sun.

I HATE being fat.

I HATE seeing the signs of ageing.

I HATE having to work so hard and being so tired lately .

I HATE having no direction in life.

"I was born under unusual circumstances." And so begins "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"

Adapted from a 1920s story about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards. A man, like any of us, who is unable to stop time. A grand tale of a not-so-ordinary man - the people and places he discovers along the way, the loves and joys he finds, the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time.

Though an award nominated movie, it did not keep me glue to my seat, wanting for more. I find some parts a little draggy; perhaps it's the director's intention to show us in depth about the life of the protagonist. Despite that, the visual effects and make-up are pretty good.

Having said that, it is still a recommended movie. 3 stars from me. =D
