Reminiscences of 2006..

6 more days to 2007. Looking back, 2006 was a rather eventful year. The best decision I've made is definitely taking up SALSA! It not only widen my social circle, it also brought me to places I never thought I would go. From Salsa Fiesta at the Mosaic Festival to Viva Sentosa. I've learnt and experience so much, and I'm loving it!

Some of the wonderful things that happened include going to Kluang with Salsalicious, Cheena party at my place and the KL trip with GAVA. Of course there are some unhappy things but it's not worth mentioning as they are over and no use lamenting about the past.

So, what are my resolutions for 2007? Seriously, I have no idea whatsoever. Argh.

Thinking.. Pondering.. Wondering.. Hmm...

Okay I know.

I want to LIVE MY LIFE TO THE FULLEST. Life is short, isn't it? So I shall make better use of my time to learn more, to experience more, to explore more. I don't want any more regrets.

Good Luck

I stumbled across this book in the library. It's about creating the conditions for success in both life and business. Quite interesting. I would recommend it for leisure reading.

Creating Good Luck is about preparing conditions for opportunity. Good Luck never comes to you by chance.

Who is Rich and Who is Poor?

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son..

"How was the trip?"
"It was great, Dad."
"Did you see how poor people live?", the father asked.
"Oh yeah", said the son.
"So, tell me, what you learned from the trip?", asked the father.

The son answered..
I saw that we have one dog and they have four.
We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.
We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.
We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond.
We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.
We buy food, but they grow theirs.
We have walls around our property to protect us; they have friends to protect them.

The boy's father was speechless.

Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing how poor we are."

Many times we think that we don't have enough, but actually what is enough? Alot of times we tend to envy people of what they have, but actually we do have alot, more than you can ever imagine. In life, there is alot of things we cannot control, instead of envying people, isn't life easier if one is contented?

2 new makan place...

Portobelle Cafe & Restaurant

A small but comfortable cafe at Killiney Road selling Mediterranean food.

Merguez sausage (left) and Jalapeno con queso for startes. The grilled lamb sausage is a must try! The mexican peppers stuffed with melted cheese is a little spicy with a tinge of sourness.

From top left: Marinara, Moussaka, Portobelle, Burrito de carne

The Cheesecake Cafe

Located at East Coast Road, this cafe is a heaven for all cheesecake lovers! Tastefully decorated with Victorian style ornaments, this is the perfect place to spend an afternoon alone or with a group of friends.

The ceiling is uniquely decorated with empty glass bottles.

From top left: strawberry oreo cheesecake, peanut butter cheesecake, chocolate cheesecake, peach with jelly cheesecake.

My favorite - Walnut cheesecake!

The Rose.

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned round to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.

She said, "Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?"

I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze.

"Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked.

She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids..."

"No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.

"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk non-stop. I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me. Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed, she leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know."

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it! There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets."

She concluded her speech by courageously singing "The Rose." She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.

At the year's end, Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be. REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL. We make a Living by what we get, We make a Life by what we give.

Have you ever wonder..

Why it seems so gay for two men to go shopping or having a meal together? Call me bias or whatever, to me, it just seems so gay! Even if they aren't behaving intimately, it just feel a little weird. Two girls hanging out together is still okay, but two guys... hmm... eewww!

Where this phrase - "Free size" comes from? How is it possible for ONE size to fit ALL? It's either S or M or L or bigger. Surely a big size lady like myself can't fit into a small top meant for skinny people, right? Shops selling "free size" clothes should start labelling them with the correct size.

What do YOU think?

New York New York!~

My second visit there, yet this place still gives me a refreshing feeling. Like the deco of this restaurant, but I can't really say the same for the food.

From top left (clockwise): Smoked salmon salad, Crunchy mushrooms, Brats wrapped in bacon & cheese, Calamari.

Was a little disappointed with the crunchy mushrooms. Thought they would use button mushrooms, but chinese mushrooms and golden mushrooms were used instead. Brats wrapped in bacon & cheese is worth trying.

Creation Cafe

Tucked away in a small corner of Shaw Tower, this cafe sells Italian pasta at affordable prices.

Set lunch at $10.90 and set dinner at $14.90. Both include soup and bread, main course, dessert and a drink.

Caesar Salad.

Potato soup with bread.

Chicken Alfredo.

Seafood in Thai Cream Sauce.

A must-try for spicy food lovers! I think they used green curry for the sauce. A unique combination with the seafood pasta.

Teriyaki Meatballs.

Another must-try! The meatballs are quite nice. Different from the meatballs normally found in pasta. I think is because they used teriyaki sauce.

Seafood Aglio.

Brownie with vanilla ice-cream.

Apple crumble with vanilla ice-cream.

I like the ambience of this place. Quite comfortable and cosy. The food is ok. I would recommend it for a simple lunch/dinner gathering.

Before I blog about my KL trip, I wanna share some interesting stuffs I saw at Vivocity last week.

Toast Box - similar concept with Ya Kun, but with more selections.

Tried their soft bun with peanut butter and buoluo yao. Not too bad.

Another interesting food I tried was the grilled rice ball. Tasted slightly different from traditional ones as there is a burnt grilled taste.

I came across this Pet Safari when I was roaming around Vivo. It wasn't as big as the one at Eastpoint, but it is as interesting with animals like dogs, rabbits n hamsters.
